Why Buy a Reconditoned Forklift Instead of New?

The application which a forklift is utilized varies widely. Some applications call for using a forklift for 6 - 8 Hours or more in a day. Useage (Actual Operating “In Use” Time) is determined by continuous or intermittent utilization.

As a general rule of thumb a forklift that is used in excess of (6) Continuous hour per day would usually call for a New or Late Model Reconditioned Used Forklift. If the proper preparations and reconditioning procedures are followed, (see below) this unit should hold up well in a busy operating environment.

For applications with a range of (3 – 5) Hours of continuous use, a fairly late model Reconditioned Used Forklift (10 Years or newer) would provide adequate serviceability for several years. If the proper preparations and reconditioning procedures are followed (see below) this unit should work well in this moderate environment.

In applications that would range from (1 – 2) Hours per Day a reconditioned Forklift that is older in model years would be a good fit. If the proper preparations and reconditioning procedures are followed (see below) This unit should last the user many years.

Buyer beware of “Deals” on units sold as “Used Only” without any servicing or repairs being performed prior to delivery. These units have been taken out of service for a reason. Although the upfront cost is attractive, the long run is likely to be costly with heavy repair costs, many periods of down time, and frustration over not being able to utilize the forklift.

Please note that all forklifts require periodic planned maintenance to ensure a long, cost effective, efficient operating life. It is to your best interest after purchasing a reconditioned or new forklift to contact a local forklift service organization to set up a planned maintenance program.

Service Inspection Checklist

Operational Checks

• Each unit is thoroughly checked for fluid leaks.
• Foot Brakes or switches are checked for wear and firm resistance.  Braking systems and parking brake are checked for response and drive thru. 
• Battery indicator, system instruments, gauges and warning lights are inspected for functionality.
• Directional Control Levers and hydraulic Controls are adjusted and checked for unusual noises.
• Frame and sheet metal are checked for structural damage.

Electric vehicle Checks

• Levels and filter are checked and refilled on Hydraulic Oil.
• Battery electrolyte levels and tested and charged.
• All Battery cables, Connections, Power Cables and wiring harnesses are checked for wear or damage.
• Contactors and Brushes are inspected on the Drive Motor, Hydraulic Motor and Steering Motor.

LP / Gas / Diesel Engines

• Exhaust and emissions systems are inspected.
• Starting System,  Engine Compression are tested. engine Valves, set Timing
• Cooling system radiator Cap, Hoses, Belts, fluid and Fan Blade are examined.
• Transmission fluid, filter and operation are checked for correct operation.
• Hydraulic System Control Valve and lines are fixed and changed as needed.
• LP Fittings & Hoses are inspected and sealed,
• Fuel and air filters, hoses and connections are checked.

Steer axle & Steer System

• The Steering, Mast and Carriage Operations are checked and aligned for safety.
• We inspect the Steering Axle, all Mounting Hardware and tie Rods and axle.
• To insure proper handling, we also check all Spindles, drive wheels, Steer chain, Steer Cylinder & Lines
• We also lube all King Pins & Bushings and Bearings

Mast, Carriage & Attachments

• Mast Rollers, bearing Straps, Chains and anchors are checked for damage.
• Adjustments or replacements are made for all Anchors, chains, Carriage Rollers, Lift Cylinders, Tilt Cylinders,
• All Lines, Connections, Fork Pins and Locks are safety checked.

Cosmetic

• We remove and clean off any excess dirt and grime.  Worn or damaged surfaces are cleaned, repaired and painted to a better condition.
